Here's something you probably don't read on blogs very often.. something positive about Dell Technical Support!
I decided to rip all my Christmas CDs to put them onto my iPod, but when I put my first CD into my drive, nothing happened. I futzed around with the device manager for a while, trying to reinstall drivers etc but couldn't figure out how to fix it. So I gritted my teeth and decided to call Dell's Tech Support. Well, it costs money to make those calls, so I decided to try the on-line chat first.
After waiting a few minutes I was connected with someone named Pankaj. (And can I say it's nice he used his real name and wasn't forced to use some fakey name like 'Joe'..) Anyway, after he asked me a few questions, he asked if he could use the Dell Connect software (like VNC) which would allow him to log into my machine. I said sure. After a few minutes of poking around he figured out the problem (based on the info I saw that flashed by, it looks like it was related to some non-compatible Easy CD Creator software I had installed and tried to uninstall) and quickly installed a fix.
The whole process was about 30 minutes, and now I'm walking in a winter wonderland with Louis Armstrong.
