I just read the book Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage. What an incredible story. If someone had made it up I never would have believed it. It describes the journey of Sir Ernest Shackleton who in 1914 with 27 other men set out from England to be the first to cross the Antarctic overland.

After a year of travelling, their ship, the Endurance, was trapped in the ice, and they had to abandon it before it was crushed. They survived on the ice floes until they were able to launch their smaller lifeboats in the open sea, but that was far from the end of their journey.

All of the men survived.

I'm not much of a non-fiction reader, but this was absolutely gripping.
