Cordless Phones

We finally decided to join the 21st century and buy a cordless phone. Prior to that we had three phones in the house: my 10-year-old phone, Chris's 13-year-old phone, and a hand-me-down cordless that we rarely used because it didn't work very well.

Working at home re-energized me to want a better phone so after a little bit of research we bought the Panasonic KX-TG1033S Dect 6.0, and so far I love it. I can WALK AROUND while I'm on the phone! I can even go INTO THE GARAGE! While I'm ON THE PHONE! It's incredible!

Other things I love: it comes with three handsets and they're all on the same system, so when I update the phonebook on one I can update it to all three. (Before, only the phone upstairs had a phonebook feature.) It has a mute button (a lifesaver on conference calls).

Things that make it not quite perfect: the volume is on the handset itself so I have to bring it away from my ear to change. The voicemail light doesn't come on when we have a new message (because it has built-in voicemail we don't use, and doesn't recognize our Vonage voicemail stutter tone). It does say "New Message" on the handset display, but that's dark until you pick it up so when you walk in the room you can't tell right away. No talking Caller ID.

Overall I'm very happy with it. We should have gotten one much sooner.

Updates

Well, I know I haven't been very good about updating this blog lately. I hope to post more in the future. Time for some updates!

The biggest news is that I'm 7 and a half months pregnant. Official due date is April 15th.. tax day! As to why I haven't posted anything about it until now... well, it look me a really long time to get pregnant, and I think that during the pregnancy I have still had a lot of doubts that it was really all going to work out, that we'd have a baby at the end of it. But with 10 weeks to go, I think I'm finally convinced. And thrilled, of course!

I won't go into the details of our infertility treatments on the blog, but I'm very willing to share what we went through. Just email me if you want to talk about it. Infertility is a depressing, scary and lonely place to be, and I think it helps a lot to be able to talk about it openly.

In other news... I'm mostly done with my consulting job, down to just a few hours a week. It's been a really great project to work on and a lot of fun.

For everyone dying to hear about our cats, Jemba had to have yet another tooth out, but thankfully this time he recovered fine and we didn't have any stomach tubes! He's eating normally again, even with no back teeth, poor guy.

I have some photos up on my Flickr site from the last few months.

That's the short version.. I will try and post a lot more in the future.
