According to this article, a new $40,000 mural in front of the Livermore library misspelled the names of "Einstein, Shakespeare, Vincent Van Gogh, Michelangelo and seven other historical figures."

It's going to cost them $6000 to fix. But the artist who created the mural isn't taking any of the blame. She says: "The people that are into humanities, and are into Blake's concept of enlightenment, they are not looking at the words. In their mind the words register correctly."

I'm no great speller myself, but if I was going to create a piece of artwork that the public would view--in front of a library no less--you bet I'd do some checking.

Yesterday I was eating my leftover tuna melt in the lunchroom at work. Two guys who are doing work on the building (construction isn't over yet) came in to eat their lunches as well. One of them started clipping his fingernails, right there at the table.

Shudder.

Chris's parents just came out for a visit. This is their 5th time to the US, so they have already seen quite a few things, but we found some new things to do. We went to the Strybing Botanical Gardens in Golden Gate Park. We also went and looked at the bison in the park. Did you know they have bison in Golden Gate Park? Chris told me this a few years ago and I did not believe him. But it's true.

We also went Point Reyes, one of my favorite places. We visited the historic lighthouse and went down (and back up) the 300 steps. We went for a walk at Coyote Point and saw the planes landing at SFO.

We took a train trip at Roaring Camp Railroad and rode the Beach Train from the Santa Cruz mountains to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. I highly recommend it.

All in all a very nice visit.
