A couple of weekends ago we went to Safari West, a wild animal park in Santa Rosa. Hard to believe it's only a couple of hours from our house. Is a 400-acre park, established in 1979. They have a few small enclosures with exotic birds, lemurs, and cheetahs, and a huge open space with herbivores--zebras, antelopes, buffalo, etc. We took a bumpy Jeep tour and got quite close to the animals. It was a pretty hot day and at times you almost did feel like you were in Africa. The Jeeps are very old, used by the Army in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

I posted pictures on Flickr. I also put up a short video, which isn't the most exciting video ever, but it will give you a little flavor for what the Jeep tour is like. It shows some Cape Buffalo.

It's that time again: the FIFA World Cup! There are 64 games, and once again Chris plans to watch all of them.

We were in Santa Barbara last weekend, and Chris got up at 5:30 AM to watch the England game live at a pub. (If you don't watch it live, how can they feel your support while they play?) I suppose he could have watched it in the hotel room, but I am a cruel cruel wife who needs her sleep. Besides, I'm sure it was more fun to watch it with a hundred other fans than with a grumpy wife who's telling you to be quiet.

This weekend we were kicking the soccer ball around in the backyard with our nieces, and Molly (the four-year-old) said: "You know the trick to soccer? Never pass the ball!"
