(walking past a bridal store)
Chris: "Hey, that looks like your wedding dress."
Cathy: (looks at dress, which is totally different) "In what way?"
Chris: "It's white!"

This is completely insane:
"Al Nakheel Properties have done it again, expanding their portfolio of man-made islands with this latest Dubai island project shaped like the continents of the world. The World will consist of between 250 to 300 smaller private artifical islands divided into four categories - private homes, estate homes, dream resorts, and community islands. Each island will range from 250,000 to 900,000 square feet in size, with 50 to 100 metres of water between each island. The development is to cover an area of 9 kilometers in length and 6 kilometers in width, surrounded by an oval shaped breakwater. The only means of transportation between the islands will be by marine transport."

Starting price for an island is $6.85 million dollars. Be sure and check out the Quicktime video for ideas on what to do with your new island: build a pirate fort, a European-style castle, a game preserve, or a mountain biking course.

The other night I got a call from someone conducting a survey about carpooling and public transportation in the bay area. One of the questions was about the 511 system, and was I 'not at all familiar', 'somewhat familiar', etc. with the service. I got to say, "As a matter of fact, I designed the voice user interface portion of the 511 system.. so I guess that means 'very familiar'."

Another question was about why I don't take public transportation to work. I actually looked the other day on the 511 website to find out how long it would take me to get to work using only public transportation. It comes out to about 2 1/2 hours, including about a mile of walking (which is all uphill on the way home), two different buses, and the train. And only for very limited hours. As opposed to 20-30 minutes of driving. Hmmm. I'm just not that dedicated. At least Chris and I are able to carpool.
